Project Start Date:
July 2018 – June 2020
Project Status:
Completed
Project Objectives and Scope
In this project a) we will investigate the applicability of the major blockchain systems to accurate and secure logging scheme, and b) we will build a prototype of a secure logging framework to demonstrate its properties and potential.
Challenges
There are many challenges associated with designing such a logging framework and we define the main requirements as:
- accessibility for auditors, such that an authorized auditor can access all logged artifacts and events,
- authentication of the logged artifacts and events, thus it is verified who has created or submit them,
- freshness of artifacts and events, such that their creation time and order can be determined.
Methodology/Approach
To overcome these challenges, we will take a different approach than proposed by previous work. We will try to combine to combine currently existing trust infrastructures with a blockchain infrastructure. We will also investigate methods of secure timestamping and censorship resilience and their applicability to blockchains.
